“Stop the Walkaways: Fighting Hidden Loss at Self-Checkout”

Customers walking away from self-checkouts without paying — known as “walkaways” — are now, with the emergence of contactless payments and soft declines, an emerging risk and source of loss.

This session brings together retailers to share how they’re measuring the true scale of the problem, monitoring incidents in real time, and redesigning checkout experiences to prevent both accidental and deliberate walkaways.

Hear what’s working now, what’s coming next, and how smarter design, data, and technology can protect profit while keeping self-checkout fast and customer-friendly.
