The food waste working group has been following the emergence of 2d barcodes and their potential to improve food safety and reduced food waste for over seven years, with research lead by the academic team, and then retailer case studies from Metro, Colruyt, Tesco and Woolworths.

In this meeting, we will again hear updates directly from retailers, including insights from Woolworths, and their store wide deployment of 2d in their fresh categories, which started in the meat categories, and in their last update in November 22, they shared that bagged salads had just been deployed. We will hear from Roberto on how their vendors have responded, the challenges and opportunities they see, and learn more about the known and unforeseen benefits of this technology and the business case behind this significant investment.
